Business travel to the Schengen Area which encompasses 26 European countries may require a visa, particularly for non-U.S. citizens. Visa applications are made at European embassies and consulates in the U.S. The visa application is to be filed with the embassy or consulate for the country of first entry and may be valid for single, double or multiple entries within the Schengen Area. The duration and number of entries permitted under the Schengen Visa are determined by the embassy or consulate requiring clear demonstration of need. Once admitted to the Schengen Area travel within it is permitted, but travel outside of the Schengen Area may well require a separate visa.
